Cooked Up From A Book

Activity: “What’s on Your Crazy Strip?”

Free Downloadable Worksheet Inspired by Judy Moody Saves the World!

JudyMoodySavesWorld-CUFAB-Hero

Judy Moody’s mission to save the world starts with something unexpected: bandages! Well, Crazy Strips to be exact.

In Judy Moody Saves the World!, Judy, Stink, and her classmates enter a contest to design the next colorful Crazy Strips. The would-be activists use the opportunity to promote causes that they’re passionate about, such as Judy’s design with bananas to represent composting.

After reading the Book of the Week with your students, download this free “What’s on Your Crazy Strip?” describe-and-draw printable worksheet. Students can design their own Crazy Strips featuring a cause about which they want to raise awareness.

Teacher Tip

Encourage students to think about what really matters to them! If they’re struggling, they can think about their hobbies or people who inspire them, and then brainstorm related causes.

This activity was inspired by fourth grade teacher Krista Gedney. To discover more ways you can use Judy Moody Saves the World! with your students, please watch Krista’s Teacher Share video in Book Talks.

What causes did your students promote with their Crazy Strip designs? If you’re able, please share with the Scholastic Book Clubs community on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.

A Note from Judy

What’s the recipe for a perfect read-aloud? A pinch of perseverance and a dollop of fun! The Book of the Week is Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao written by Kat Zhang and illustrated by Charlene Chua.

Join the Book Boys as they learn how to make their own bao in an original music video; watch an exclusive interview with author Kat Zhang in Behind the Scenes; discover how one teacher uses Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao in her classroom in Book Talks; and download a free printable “My Perfect Recipe” sequencing activity in Cooked Up from a Book.

We hope that Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao inspires you and your students to never give up on trying something new, because practice makes perfect!
