It’s a Heat Wave!

This heat wave is hot, hot, hot, and the Book Boys need to find a way to cool off! Can they work together to track down a delicious sweet treat and beat the heat?
Inspired by the Book of the Week—Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream, written by Tom Watson and illustrated by Ethan Long—Allister, Elliott, and Max perform an original song in a fun, class-friendly video. Share it with your students as a brain break between lessons or after recess as a warm-up activity to complement this hilarious installment in a kid-favorite series.
We Suggest:
1. Read aloud Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream with your class, or encourage students to read smaller sections on their own
2. Play the Book Boys music video as a warm-up to lessons after recess or lunch
3. After reading, open up a conversation about ways we can beat the heat. What do your students like to do to cool off when the weather is hot?
What are some creative ways your students deal with hot weather? If you’re able, please share your students’ responses with the Scholastic Book Clubs community on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
