Activity: “Go Fetch Words with Stick Dog!”

Free Downloadable Worksheet Inspired by Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream

CUFAB-Stick-Dog-Hero

The drawings in Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream may be simple, but the vocabulary is as deliciously rich as ice cream!

After reading the Book of the Week with your class, download this free printable “Go Fetch Words with Stick Dog!” word search activity. Students can hunt for interesting (and possibly new to them) words such as “hypnotize,” “scrumptious,” and “triumphantly.” It’s an excellent way to help students expand their vocabulary.

Teacher Tip

One of the best ways to absorb new vocabulary is to hear it used in everyday speech. See if you can sneak some of these words into regular class discussions to help your students become familiar with them.

This activity was inspired by sixth grade teacher Kyndel Edens’s Teacher Share video. For more ideas about how to use Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream with your students, watch her full review in Book Talks.

A Note from Judy

What’s the recipe for a perfect read-aloud? A pinch of perseverance and a dollop of fun! The Book of the Week is Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao written by Kat Zhang and illustrated by Charlene Chua.

Join the Book Boys as they learn how to make their own bao in an original music video; watch an exclusive interview with author Kat Zhang in Behind the Scenes; discover how one teacher uses Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao in her classroom in Book Talks; and download a free printable “My Perfect Recipe” sequencing activity in Cooked Up from a Book.

We hope that Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao inspires you and your students to never give up on trying something new, because practice makes perfect!
