Book Boys Brain Break: The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Halloween Song for Friends!

Halloween is a holiday for everyone to get together and express themselves—so come join the fun!

Take a brain break with the Book Boys and dance along to this special Halloween song written by Joe Troiano, author of The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, featuring clips from the official music video for the book! Students can try doing all the dance moves, including the monster mash, the Transylvania twist, the scarecrow dance, and more.

Brain break music videos are great for helping students build listening skills. For example, this song features descriptive lyrics, themes of friendship and community, and a chance to learn social skills.

Play the video and give your students a chance to move around, refocus, and reenergize!

We Suggest:

1. Read aloud The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin.

2. Start circle time by sharing the Book Boys’ music video! Encourage your students to move or dance along.

3. Afterward, ask students which dance moves they enjoy performing the most.

If you’re able, please share photos of your students’ dance moves on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
