Activity: Celebrate What Makes Students Unique

Draw-and-Write Activity Inspired by The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin

We all have qualities that make us stand out from the crowd, just like Spookley the square pumpkin!

Encourage your students to celebrate what makes each one of them special with this simple draw-and-write activity. Students can create a portrait of themselves and then write about something that makes them unique.

This activity is inspired by Natasha Ciron, a kindergarten teacher at AmPark Neighborhood School in the Bronx, New York. See this week’s Book Talks teacher review video for more of Natasha’s ideas on how to use The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin with your class!

We would love to see how your students’ portraits turned out! If you’re able, please share with the Scholastic Book Clubs community on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
