More sleep, more hours in a day, and more hope…these are some things the Book Boys wish for.
What about you and your students?
Wishes by Mượn Thị Văn, illustrated by Victo Ngai, tells the story of a refugee family’s journey to a new country. The picture book inspired the Book Boys to learn more about the history of the Vietnam War and the migration of Vietnamese refugees to the United States in the early 1980s.
In this classroom-friendly video, the Book Boys present some of the many reasons why they love this Book of the Week, including:
• The eye-catching, expressive illustrations
• Its reminder to have hope during difficult times
• Learning about the journey of Vietnamese refugees
• Relating to the emotions of the young girl in the story
What are some ways that you encourage your students to have hope while going through big changes? Please share with the Scholastic Book Clubs community on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
