Thanksgiving is the perfect time for kids to think about things for which they are grateful. Use these two free and fun creative activities to help your students reflect on and show their appreciation for all of the wonderful things in life.

Acrostic Poem: Older students can use the word GRATEFUL to create a poem about things they are thankful for.

Thankful Turkey: Younger students can color and decorate their own Thankful Turkey, writing something in each feather for which they are grateful!

Teacher Tip

Once your students are finished with their activities, hang all of them up on a board in your classroom or hallway so that everyone can admire their work!

When your students are done, take a picture of their work and tag us on Facebook and/or Instagram using the hashtags #ScholasticBookClubs and #StayConnectedSBC. We hope that you have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

A Note from Judy

Dragons are huge fans of tacos—as long as they don’t have one secret, spicy ingredient! The Book of the Week is the laugh-out-loud, fun-to-read-together picture book Dragons Love Tacos, written by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri!

Dance to an original song with the Book Boys; discover the many ways that one first grade teacher uses Dragons Love Tacos with her students in Book Talks; read an exclusive interview with Adam Rubin in Behind the Scenes; and download a free printable “Dragons Love My Tacos!” recipe activity in Cooked Up from a Book that also helps students practice sequencing.

We hope that your younger readers have a blast with Dragons Love Tacos—and remember: no salsa!
