3-Minute Video on Introducing Character (in Books and in the Classroom)
by Tatiana Florival
“Clifford is one of those characters there’s so many stories about.…Once you introduce him, [your students] can just keep learning and learning about him!” —Brian Smith
In Brian Smith’s kindergarten class in Oxford Elementary in Claremont, North Carolina, one of his students’ favorite activities is something he calls “Retell Splat!” Brian finds that Clifford the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell offers a fantastic opportunity to use this activity that involves a bit of Play-Doh to teach students about sequencing.
Watch Brian’s enthusiastic and creative teacher review video to learn more about “Retell Splat!” and other activities he uses alongside Clifford the Big Red Dog, including:
• Character anchor charts
• Setting behavior expectations
• Sequencing words (first, second, next, then, last, etc.)
