How to Use Little Rhino: My New Team  with Your Class

3-Minute Teacher Review Video on Perseverance, Overcoming Obstacles, and Springtime Reads!

by Tatiana Florival

Teacher’s Takeaway

“This book is great for kids of all ages—especially if you want them to learn about perseverance and overcoming obstacles!” —Jenise R. Collins

Spring means new beginnings, warmer weather, and…baseball!

Jenise R. Collins—an early childhood educator at Park Slope North Child Development Center in Brooklyn, New York, and a former third grade teacher—finds that Little Rhino: My New Team is a great way to celebrate the season with her students.

Watch Jenise’s Scholastic Book Clubs–exclusive teacher review video to discover how you can use this baseball-themed chapter book to share lessons on perseverance, bullying, and friendship in your class.

• Guided Reading: You can assign new chapters to your kids every day and focus on specific lessons, such as growth mindset and dealing with bullying.

• Dinosaur Talk: Jenise’s students loved Rhino’s dinosaur club so much that they wanted to learn more about dinosaurs after the book was over.

• Chart or Discuss Differences: Students can compare and contrast elements from the book, such as Rhino’s and Cooper’s personalities or Rhino and Dylan’s relationship at the beginning and end of the story.

How do you plan to use Little Rhino: My New Team with your students? We’d love to hear from you! If you’re able, please share with us and other Scholastic Book Clubs teachers on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
