Special Book Boys Interview with Author and Holocaust Survivor Elly Berkovits Gross
by Traci Swain
With Holocaust Remembrance Day—or Yom HaShoah—on April 7–8, 2021, Allister, Elliott, and Max feel fortunate to meet Elly Berkovits Gross, a Holocaust survivor and the author of the Book of the Week, Elly: My True Story of the Holocaust.
Play this kid-friendly video for your students to share Elly’s inspiring message of resilience and hope and to help get your class inspired to read her moving memoir.
• Max asks Elly what helped her get through her time at the concentration camp.
• Allister asks when and why Elly decided to share her story.
• Elliott asks what message Elly hopes young readers take away from her book.
Do you know a young reader, teacher, or friend who would find Elly’s story inspiring? Please share the Book Boys’ interview video with them on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.

The Book Boys work in different departments at Scholastic Book Clubs. They formed a group to share a wide range of books and introduce students to the world of reading. Each week, the Book Boys select a book to feature. They make stories come alive by creating fun, educational, and engaging videos for teachers and families to use in the classroom or at home. The Book Boys, like everyone at Scholastic Book Clubs, want all kids to love to read and be proud to declare: “I am a reader!”
