Exclusive Video Interview with the Author and Illustrator of The Napping House
by Traci Swain
“You may not know this, but the Napping House is real!” —Audrey Wood
“We listen to each other at least 10 percent of the time.” —Don Wood
We know that life inspires art…but sometimes, art inspires life too!
When Don Wood—one-half of the husband-and-wife creative duo behind The Napping House—set out to illustrate Audrey Wood’s words, he needed a real-life model. And so, their home in California became the stand-in. To make it extra cozy feeling, Don added a drawing of a beautiful picket fence.
Well, after The Napping House hit shelves and quickly became a bedtime favorite, Audrey decided to bring Don’s picket fence to life—she hired a carpenter to build one just like in the book!
Watch this charming interview with Audrey and Don to learn more about the behind-the-scenes process of creating The Napping House, including:
• How Audrey and Don work together to refine each other’s contributions
