The Guys Welcome Humphrey Into Their Homes!
by Traci Swain
The Book Boys got to know a very special hamster this week and had tons of fun-fun-fun!
After reading The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney, Elliott, Max, and Allister imagine what it would be like to hang out with the charming class pet hamster—including what they would do together and what they think Humphrey’s nickname for each of them would be.
Check out this video with your class to discover why the guys love The World According to Humphrey…and find out what they were like when they were in elementary school!
You can use this video to help your class:
• Practice responding to literature
• Focus on communication and fluency
• Participate in small-group discussions
Now that your students know what might happen if Humphrey slept over at the Book Boys’ homes, what would it be like if they brought Humphrey home with them? Encourage kids to imagine the possibilities in this week’s Cooked Up from a Book free downloadable activity.
The Book Boys work in different departments at Scholastic Book Clubs. They formed a group to share a wide range of books and introduce students to the world of reading. Each week, the Book Boys select a book to feature. They make stories come alive by creating fun, educational, and engaging videos for teachers and families to use in the classroom or at home. The Book Boys, like everyone at Scholastic Book Clubs, want all kids to love to read and be proud to declare: “I am a reader!”
