Dragons, magic, and witches just across the East River?! You know the Book Boys are in!
This week, the Book Boys were thrilled to jump into Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott—a fantastical chapter book about a boy from Brooklyn who has to help a witch get three baby dragons back to the magic realm.
In this video, Allister, Elliott, and Max share their favorite parts of Dragons in a Bag and what they would do if they were ever a magical apprentice!
Sharing the Book of the Week with your students is also a great way for them to:
• Examine descriptive language and practice creative thinking
• Identify elements of a typical fantasy and discuss how this book avoids them
• Explore points of view that may be different from their own
Did your students enjoy Dragons in a Bag? If you’re able, we’d love to hear from you! Please share with readers and other Scholastic Book Clubs teachers on Facebook and Instagram by using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.

The Book Boys work in different departments at Scholastic Book Clubs. They decided to form a group to share a wide range of books and introduce students to the world of reading. Each week, the Book Boys select a book to feature. They make stories come alive by creating fun, educational, and engaging videos for teachers and families to use in the classroom or at home. The Book Boys, like everyone at Scholastic Book Clubs, want all kids to love to read and be proud to declare: “I am a reader!”
