React to Text Through Art with Two Free Printable Worksheets
by Alana Pedalino
No matter which witchy Book of the Week (The Witches by Roald Dahl or Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson) you use with your students, we have a fun and free printable worksheet to help your students respond to the text while practicing their drawing skills!
For The Witches, your students can use the worksheet to write or draw what they learn about the Grand High Witch as they read. It’s an excellent way to practice observing character traits and tracking ideas over the course of the story. Download the “Are You a Witchophile?” describe-and-draw activity here:
For Room on the Broom, your students can respond to the text after reading by decorating their very own broom. Download the “My Own Broomstick!” drawing activity here:
Once they’re done (and if it’s feasible)—students can share their worksheets with other students by swapping pictures or explaining their work.
How did your students’ activities turn out? We’d love to see! Please share with us on social media using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs on Facebook and Instagram. We always love to share students’ work on our social media pages.
Also, make sure to subscribe to Scholastic’s YouTube channel for educational videos you can share with your class.
