Make Hats with the Illustrator of the Bobs and Tweets Series
by Traci Swain
In this video created exclusively for Scholastic Book Clubs, Kristy Caldwell, illustrator of the Bobs and Tweets series, joins two Girl Scouts to have some fun making real-life hats inspired by Bobs and Tweets #4: Scout Camp!
Vibrant, colorful, and whimsical, Kristy’s signature illustrations are as recognizable as the diverse characters of Bonefish Street, and it’s easy to see why they are beloved by Bobs and Tweets fans of all ages.
In this behind-the-scenes video, Kristy is joined by Girls Scouts Zoe and Roma for a craft activity—they try making hats just like the ones in Scout Camp! Watch the video together with your students (in the classroom or at home), then try creating your own!
We’d love to see how the hats you create turned out! Please share with us on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
In 2016, Kristy Caldwell debuted as a children’s book artist with Meet the Bobs and Tweets, written by Pepper Springfield. She’s gone on to illustrate three more books in the Bobs and Tweets series, as well as three picture books, including the critically acclaimed Flowers for Sarajevo by John McCutcheon, which was a Junior Library Guild Selection and New York Public Library Best Picture Book for Kids 2017 pick. Kristy grew up in Louisiana and now lives in New York City. Her favorite summer-camp activities are dominating at Ping-Pong and listening to cicadas. See more at kristycaldwell.com.
