Almost one year ago (has it really been that long?), a surprising song hit the Billboard Hot 100: “Baby Shark” (doo-doo-doo-do-doo-do-doo).
In those pre-social-distancing times, David Vozar and I had a whale of a time dressing up as sharks and trying the dance ourselves.
These days, we know that it can be particularly difficult to help kids stay active when they’re stuck in the house. But if a kid in your life (or you!) is familiar with this song, you know how hard it is to hear it and not dance along.
That’s why we are so excited to bring back Baby Shark as our Book of the Week.
“Straight from the catchy, children’s song, Baby Shark takes readers right into the story, complete with bright, adorable and engaging illustrations. Hand signs and dance instructions accompany the lyrics so everyone can dance and sing along.” —Amy, Goodreads
Teachers, parents, and kids all love reading, dancing, and singing along to this lighthearted and upbeat story. It’s a quick way to add some positivity and levity to your day—and sneak in your 20 minutes of recommended exercise!
My friend and colleague David Vozar loves how Baby Shark allows us adults to be silly—and, at the same time, inspire new generations to read.
To help get the children in your life excited about Baby Shark—whether at home or at school—we (remotely) put together these exciting teaching resources:
