Host a Classroom Pajama Drive to Help Kids in Need
by Traci Swain
Host a Llama Llama Red Pajama–inspired pajama drive in your classroom to give kids in need better nights for better days.
Every child needs the comfort of a bedtime routine. That’s why, for the past decade, Scholastic Book Clubs has partnered with Pajama Program to provide brand-new pajamas and books to children who are facing uncertainty all across the country.
Your class can help by joining the 11th Annual Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive and donating new pajamas. For every pair of pj’s donated, Scholastic Book Clubs will match and donate a brand-new book directly to Pajama Program to be distributed to children experiencing challenges beyond their control.
The Book of the Week, Llama Llama Red Pajama, perfectly illustrates the benefits of Pajama Program’s mission. Little Llama had a really hard time going to sleep, but with a consistent, comforting bedtime routine, he was assured that everything would be okay.
The story highlights the connection between child and caregiver and reinforces Pajama Program’s Bill of Rights: Every child has the right to a sense of stability and security, the right to a comforting bedtime routine, and to enjoy cozy pajamas and a bedtime story to inspire their imagination.

The pajama drive is a great way to teach students compassion while empowering them to help others. We hope that your class will host a pajama drive in your school this year!
