Scary Stories and Creepy Characters Inspired by the Books of the Week
by Alana Pedalino
Get in the spooky spirit with a creative and engaging age-appropriate classroom activity! Download this free worksheet to help your students draft their own scary stories at whatever level.
One of the best parts about horror stories is the creativity—it’s a genre in which authors and illustrators can really let their imaginations run wild.
Encourage your students to get in on the fun with this Spooky Story Surprise Activity inspired by Creepy Carrots!, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Goosebumps Most Wanted #2: Son of Slappy. By planning and writing their very own spine-tingling tales, kids will learn about character, setting, and plot.
Get started by downloading this free printable worksheet and have students roll a die to determine which elements each student will include in their story. Then let students brainstorm and write. Have them share their creations with a partner or read to the class!
Grab the flashlights and get ready for a spooooooooky classroom activity!
Teacher Tip: Younger students can roll a die and draw a picture containing their story elements instead of writing their own spooky stories.
Which story combinations did your students roll? We’d love to hear from you! Please share with us on social media using the hashtag #ScholasticBookClubs.
