It turns out that award-winning children’s book author Jerry Pallotta can name a lot! Jerry came by the Scholastic Book Clubs offices in New York City to participate in an exciting Icky Bug Alphabet Challenge inspired by his own book, and this week’s Dollar Deal, The Icky Bug Alphabet Book.
Tune in to see which insects Jerry names off the top of his head for different letters of the alphabet, then try it in your own classroom. For more advanced students, you can jumble the alphabetical order like Jerry did!

Jerry Pallotta is a children’s author from Scituate, Massachusetts. He grew up going to Peggotty Beach with his 72 cousins, which was the basis of his book Ocean Cousins. He has written more than 90 children’s books over the past 30 years. His first book ever was called The Ocean Alphabet Book, and today, he’s focused on his bestselling kid-favorite Who Would Win? series, in which some of his favorite animals face off in the wild. Today, he tours schools in all 50 of the United States—and other countries!—to help thousands of kids fall in love with reading. He has four kids and five grandkids, whom he loves very much.
