Classroom Activity Inspired by Giraffes Can’t Dance
by Alana Pedalino and Traci Swain
It’s a party, and the whole jungle—we mean, classroom—is invited!
We were so excited about the jungle dance in Giraffes Can’t Dance that we created a fun classroom dance-party activity just for you and your students. Here’s how it works.
First, download and print the giraffe mask template, then encourage your students to use their imaginations in decorating them. We used markers, crayons, sequins, and more. You should use what inspires you—let your students get creative!
Once students have put on their masks and are on the dance floor, play the Book Boys’ new original song, “Giraffes CAN Dance,” and see if the kids can repeat the boys’ dance moves! Monica Zamora’s Kindergarten class at George Washington School in Edgewater, New Jersey did a great job (and had lots of fun)!
We’d love to see what your class comes up with. Upload fun photos and videos from your dance party and tag @ScholasticBookClubs!
