Robert Lawrence Stine is the creator of the world-famous and thrilling Goosebumps series. But he didn’t always write scary stories! In fact, he kicked off his career in a very different direction—humor. For ten years, he was the writer of Scholastic’s zany comedy magazine, Bananas, and spent his time writing joke books under the pen name Jovial Bob Stine. It wasn’t until 1986 that he tried out horror…and his book, Blind Date, became an instant bestseller, launching his writing in a spookier direction. Today, he has written more than 330 books, is the creative mind behind the all-time bestselling chapter-book series in history, and is collaborating with Marc Brown, the creator of Arthur the Aardvark, to create picture books like the frightfully silly Mary McScary.
