Teacher Review of Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse!
by Godwin Chu and Alexie Basil
Even if it feels like the most natural thing in the world, teachers of young children know that friendship is something we must learn and practice. And who’s a better role model than Mouse from Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond’s Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse!
At Appleview Early Learning Center & Preschool in North Bergen, New Jersey, Ms. Diane Mollica uses this delightfully charming picture book to teach social skills and grow positive emotions like empathy, love, and kindness with her four-year-olds.
Inspired by Mouse’s thoughtfulness and compassion for his friends, Ms. Diane’s students love to explore what friendship means to them—and they even make compliment Valentine’s Day cards for each other!
Check out the video above for Ms. Diane’s take on using this week’s Dollar Deal in the classroom. Her ideas motivated us to make our own version of Mouse’s compliment Valentine’s Day cards from the book. Here’s what we came up with!
