To write The Little Ships, Louise Borden deeply immersed herself in the story of Dunkirk.
Her fieldwork took her all the way across the Atlantic, where she sailed the English Channel on original restored little ships from the 1940 evacuation. Then, once at the beaches of Dunkirk, she collected rocks and sand as personal keepsakes.
Check out the video to hear about her research process and more, including what ignites her passion for the favorite picture book she’s ever written and her personal favorite little ships.
And the video above is just the shortened edition! If you’d like to watch Louise’s full unedited interview, check it out here.
